The current cyberattacks have expedited to upload of the card number information for their respective licenses to the National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information Service (NEVDIS) which the DVS checks against.

To minimize the potential harm to license holders, all states are seeking to make the card number a compulsory field for driver's license verifications via the DVS.

Users of the DVS are asked to urgently prioritize any required changes to capture the card number for their driver's license and for these to be submitted as part of the DVS request. Users who do not make the required changes prior to the mandatory enforcement for their jurisdictions will no longer be able to verify their driver's licenses.

This mandatory enforcement also helps to protect your organization to ensure that a license that has been compromised as part of the attack is unable to be used for identity verification once the license has been replaced.
